Problem solving and creativity - seem like the same thing?

I began this project as a holiday project, and I hope I can keep at it :-)

So, with the optimism that comes with creating your first post, here. we. go!

I've spent about half of my life working in IT departments of companies and quite a bit of the other half preparing for it.

Most of us think that folks in IT are 'left-brained' - implying that we are not creative or interested in art/culture and other fine things in life.

I beg to differ.

I think working in IT requries one to be creative and all engineers and software developers are intrinsically creative. Problem solving requires creativity in good measure. It just happens that all the other 'creative' people (who do not work in IT, but depend on it) place demands on us that probably result in IT folks spending too much time behind a computer - honing only a particular type of creativity.

I like to think that I am curious, detail oriented, good at logical reasoning and an introvert. That said, I'm also someone who appreciates art, music, design, architecture, culture and a romantic at heart.

And so are many of us.
